What The Archivist is

The Archivist keeps your email, notes and documents in one archive, for life. You search it and ask it questions in the web app. Your AI agents can search it too, once you approve them. As it reads, a curator builds pages about the people and places in your life, and a timeline of what happened, with every fact linked to the passages it came from.

  • Email, read from your accounts over IMAP. See Email accounts.
  • Notes, from an Obsidian vault. See The Obsidian plugin.
  • Documents and folders from your computer, kept in sync by Archivist Sync, or uploaded by hand: Markdown, text, PDFs, Word and spreadsheet files and more. See Archivist Sync and Uploading files.
  • Quick notes your agents save when you ask them to.

It reads from these sources. It never changes, moves or deletes anything in your mailbox, vault or folders.

  • Ask questions in plain words, and get answers that cite the passages they rest on.
  • Read any thread or note in the Library.
  • See the people and places in your life, how you know them, and when you were last in touch: People and Places.
  • Follow the Timeline of your years, months and weeks, with the events the curator found.
  • Connect your agents so they can search your archive while you work.

Only you can sign in to it. Each person’s archive is kept separately, and no other user can open yours. Your agents can read it only after you approve each one, and you can revoke any of them in Settings. The service itself reads your archive to search and curate it; Privacy and your data says where it’s kept and what reads it.

The Archivist is in a closed beta. You need an invitation to sign in. See Signing in.
