Fixing what the curator got wrong

You correct the curator where you see its mistakes. Every correction is yours for good: the curator never changes it back.

On any person’s, place’s or your own page, and on the Timeline:

  • Fix turns a line into a field. Enter saves and Escape cancels.
  • Remove takes a line away, with Undo for 6 seconds. The curator won’t add it again.
  • Add writes a fact of your own.
  • Keep makes a line the curator wasn’t sure of yours as it is, so it’s no longer marked.
  • Two people who are one: answer Same person when People suggests it, or use Merge with someone… in a person’s More menu. Not the same keeps a suggested pair apart for good.
  • Someone who isn’t a person, such as a mailing list: Not a person in their More menu. The curator won’t add them again under that name.
  • A person who’s really an organisation: Is a place…. See Places.
  • Many at once: on People, press Choose, tick the rows or Choose all shown, then choose Not a person, Is a place… or Add to People.

Sometimes the wrong person is linked to some mail, such as two people who share a name. On their page, under Correspondence, press Choose documents, tick the documents, or choose Everything before a month, then:

  • Unlink: the documents stop being this person’s. Facts that came only from them go, and the person is never linked to them again.
  • Move to…: the documents, and what was learned from them, go to someone else, or to a New person. Later mail from an address used only in those documents goes there too.
  • Archive: for documents that aren’t about anyone. See below.

Each shows Undo for 6 seconds before it’s applied.

Archive a document from the reader’s details, or from a person’s chosen documents. It’s taken off everyone’s pages and isn’t curated, but it stays in search and Ask. The Library hides it unless you choose the Archived filter. Unarchive puts it back.

If the curator skipped a real conversation as bulk mail, open it in the reader and choose Curate anyway. It’s never skipped again.
